This diet is unique because it works to help you control diabetes, blood pressure, and heart disease through diet; an added bonus is that on this diet, you’ll also lose weight. It is not medically prescribed but those who start the program should see a physician first so that their progress can be monitored by a medical professional. There are enough nutrition experts out to tell you what to eat but only your doctor can monitor how it affects you.

Once you get in the “Zone,” you should also work out and begin to include exercising your day, too.

Perhaps the most important part of the Zone Diet is the protein you get. You limit your intake of carbohydrates, but boost the amount of protein, so that you build muscle. This diet isn’t about starving yourself; instead, it’s about eating right.

The Zone Diet is based upon the numbers 40-30-30; that means, 40% carbohydrates from vegetables, fruit and whole grains, 30% protein from foods like chicken, and 30% fat. And of course, the diet also allows for an occasional treat like ice cream, but you should limit these things to one serving. In order to cure yourself of diseases caused by overweight and obesity, you need to find the cure by doing the opposite — losing weight and eating healthily.
